Skittles
Many thanks to Grandparent Mary O’Brien for teaching Fifth and Sixth Class how to play ‘Skittles’ during Active School Week. They had great fun learning this new skill from Mary, who is a former All Ireland Champion. Skittles was a game that was traditionally played in the area for many years in the last century. We are delighted that Mary has passed on her knowledge for this wonderful game that is extremely inclusive.

Active Line Dancing
'Class Lines' after break time enjoyed 'Active Line Dancing' for Active School Week. Well done to our leaders for leading the dances:)

Cross-Curricular Activities
Children from all classes engaged in activities that involved using physical activity in many areas of the curriculum. These included learning to march as a class while playing the tin whistle, using action songs for Gaeilge and English, saying action rhymes, becoming an active orchestra and practising multiplication while using our walkway.

North Cork Athletics Blitz
Third Class really enjoyed the @CorkSports @HealthyIreland @Corkcoco North Cork Athletics Blitz @carrigoon (Wednesday, 10th April 2019) during Active School Week. We are very grateful for the new athletics equipment that the children received on the day and to Garda Vetted parents that helped staff on the trip. On returning to school, the children completed their “Football Mile Challenge”, well done!
Great fun using our new equipment!

Indoor Active School Week
Ballygiblin N.S. Indoor Active School Week took place on the week beginning Monday, November 26th 2018. The committee decided to have a week dedicated to promoting physical activities that can be done indoors on wet days. We organised many fun events on the week such as ‘Just Dance Mania’, an ‘Indoor School Walkway Marathon’, ‘Floating Football’ and an ‘Animal Pentathlon’. On Wednesday, each class had an Irish Dancing session with Eileen Reilly. Many thanks to Eileen for coming to our school, we really appreciate it.
The ‘Animal Pentathlon’ was also a fundraising event for P.E. equipment. There were five activities that the children did for Circuit 1 (2 minutes per station) and Circuit 2 (3 minutes per station). These were Flamingo Hop, Penguin Waddle (Stay safe on the ice!), Gorilla Run, Crab Walk and Joey Jump (jumping for height). We had music playing on our sound system and games at each station. For example, the penguins had to mind their eggs! The committee would like to thank everyone that sponsored children for the event.
